WEBINAR: Understanding MIG vs. Non-MIG – What you need to know!

Followed by a Live Q & A - Discussing Clinic Operations

📅 November 27, 2025
🕐 1:00 PM

This webinar will be live and recorded, to accommodate clinical schedules. Certificates of Attendance are available upon request to those that attend live.

Session Overview

Navigating the Minor Injury Guideline (MIG) can be challenging—and costly for both patients and clinics when injuries are inaccurately classified. Join us for a practical, case-based session designed for health service providers, clinic owners, and administrative teams working in Ontario’s auto insurance rehab sector.

Presenting on this important topic are two personal injury lawyers from our Platinum Supporters, Siskinds LLP:

  • Dagmara Wozniak, Partner, Personal Lawyer, Siskinds LLP
  • Lauren Cullen, Personal Injury Lawyer, Siskinds LLP

What This Presentation Covers

Understanding Minor Injuries Under the SABS
A clear explanation of what qualifies as a “minor injury” under s.3(1) and how the MIG limits treatment and funding.

  Psychological Impairments & Functional Impact
Explore decisions like Germaw v. Belair showing how PTSD, adjustment disorder, and functional impairment (e.g., driving avoidance, social withdrawal) justify MIG removal.

  Chronic Pain & Functional Limitation
Unpack Kar v. Aviva, where chronic pain—without the need for a formal “chronic pain syndrome” diagnosis—was enough to remove the claimant from the MIG due to persistent impairment.

  Pre-Existing Conditions & Exacerbation
Review how pre-existing psychological or physical conditions, when worsened by the accident, can disqualify a claimant from the MIG.

Live Q & A: Clinic Operations

After Dagmara and Lauren’s presentation, we’ll open the floor for a candid Q&A on:

  • Operational functions within MVA clinics
  • Documentation and form-submission best practices
  • Administrative challenges and workflow questions

Real-world issues health service providers and admin teams face daily.

Members of the ORA Board will join the discussion to help answer questions — but the goal is a collaborative, peer-to-peer conversation where attendees learn from one another.
