Big Wins for HSPs and Injured Drivers

Be still our beating hearts – we’ve been heard!

Our lobbying efforts seem to have paid off. There are several pieces of good news for us in Ontario’s budget.

Highlights:

# 1 - The government is asking FSRA to review the PSG and Attendant Care Guideline to ensure “that those injured in auto accidents continue to receive the care they need and that health service providers are compensated appropriately for their services”.

# 2 – Increased optionality will not impact mandatory Med/Rehab Accident Benefits.

# 3 – Auto insurers will be first payors – no more jumping through Extended Health Benefit hurdles.

While health service providers and our clients in the auto insurance sector have reason to celebrate, we also have some questions. The government has asked FSRA to review the guidelines, but what are the timelines for doing so? Will there be a consultation process prior to implementing any changes?
