Dear ORA members and other providers of brain injury rehabilitation in non-OHIP funded sectors (e.g., auto insurance, WSIB, extended health, private pay, etc.),
We are reaching out to you today on behalf of the Provincial TBI Report Card Working Group and the Neurotrauma Care Pathways Team to request your participation in a community provider survey related to the Provincial TBI Report Card. As part of the Neurotrauma Care Pathways Project, we have been pushing the Ministry of Health to understand the need for community-based data and to fund infrastructure to support data collection. We need your assistance to demonstrate that data collection in the community is vital and possible.
A major barrier to understanding and improving TBI care quality and equity in Ontario is the lack of data integration across funding sources. Siloed data holdings and poor harmonization between publicly funded and third-party funded care has made system evaluation a challenge, resulting in a lack of community-level data that speaks to long-term outcomes, continuity of care, and availability of supports or resources. Thus, in the current data environment it is challenging to see the extent of care that is provided in the community, and in fact can lead to the conclusion that very little community rehabilitative care is needed. Our aim is for this survey to bridge some of the data gaps in the rehabilitation and community stages of care to provide a better understanding of the TBI care system and where there may be areas for quality improvement.
This survey’s findings will be a companion to the Provincial TBI Report Card for public services. The community-based data will be summarized and presented with the 2024 Report Card, which will be made publicly available on the brain injury guidelines website (https://braininjuryguidelines.org/onf/). It will also be submitted to the Ministry of Health as part of the Neurotrauma Care Pathways Project deliverables.
The data being collected here be shared with policy makers to better determine the unmet rehabilitation needs of people with TBI. We expect this survey will take about 30 minutes to complete. It has been developed in close consultation with the ORA and will be disseminated across the province’s community-based providers. We ask that only one survey be completed per organization or organizational division. Please complete the survey by January 31, 2024.
If you have any questions about the survey, feel free to get in touch with Arman Ali, of the Pathways team. ([email protected]).
Please note that you will not be able to save and resume the survey at a later time; it must be completed in one sitting. Thank you very much for your time and support.
