Equity Elements survey
To all ORA members and other providers of brain injury rehabilitation in non-OHIP funded sectors (e.g., auto insurance, WSIB, extended health, private pay, etc.).
We are reaching out to you today on behalf of the Neurotrauma Care Pathways Project to request your participation in an equity-focused survey related to the Provincial TBI Report Card. To support the Neurotrauma Care Pathways’ Data Initiative and advance health equity data collection, we are seeking to understand the types of data that are collected by non-OHIP funded community rehabilitation providers across Ontario to describe the social determinants of health. Click here to complete the survey!
A major barrier to understanding and improving TBI care quality in Ontario is the lack of equity related data across the province, which prevents the accurate characterization of care and the people who receive it. While this survey is not meant to collect the data itself, it represents an important first step in advancing health equity data collection by understanding and identifying where the gaps are in the data collection process. By asking providers the type of elements that are collected and how they are recorded, we can better identify areas of need and where future quality improvement efforts should be concentrated. As part of the Pathways Project, we have been pushing the Ministry of Health to understand the need for community-based data and to fund infrastructure to support data collection. We need your assistance to demonstrate that equity-related data collection in the community is vital and possible.
This survey’s findings will be presented in parallel to the results from similar survey that were distributed to publicly-funded inpatient rehabilitation institutions and community brain injury organizations (as part of the Provincial TBI Report Card for public services). The data will be summarized by the Provincial TBI Report Card Working Group and will be presented with the 2024 Report Card, publicly available on the brain injury guidelines website (https://braininjuryguidelines.org/onf/). Data and key findings will be submitted to the Ministry of Health as part of the Neurotrauma Care Pathways Project deliverables.
We will be summarizing this data and not identifying individual providers; the purpose is to have a provincial lens. The results of this survey will help us in identify strengths in existing data collection practices and make recommendations to address data gaps related to TBI health equity and the social determinants of health in Ontario. The elements included in the survey were informed by the PRAPARE Initiative and the Institute of Medicine’s equity domains. Findings from this survey will supplement the provincial TBI Report Card and be presented to policy makers to highlight gaps in data collection and facilitate difficult conversations related to equity and quality of care.
We expect this will take about 15 minutes to complete. It has been developed in close consultation with the ORA and will be disseminated across the province’s community-based providers. We ask that only one survey be completed per organization or organizational division. Please complete the survey by March 21st, 2024.
Click here to complete the survey! If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with Arman Ali ([email protected]). Please note that you will not be able to save and resume the survey at a later time; it must be completed in one sitting. Thank you very much for your time and support.
Thank you To Our 2024 Supporters
